Klebsiella pneumoniae morphology


Gram-negative, small (0,5-0,8 / 1-2 um) coccobacilli. Does not form spores, is fixed. Capable of forming a capsule. Arranged singly, in pairs and clusters. Easily stained with aniline dyes.

Hemoorganogeterotrof, facultative anaerobe. Cultivated on ordinary nutrient media (MPA, MPB). On agar nutrient media forms around the slimy grayish-white colonies. In BCH - uniform turbidity medium with the formation of viscous mucus and sediment of the film. Ferments lactose, does not produce indole.
